How to resize a piece without damaging it

Most jewelers will resize your piece. Most jewelers will also wreck the plating.

March 9, 2026 3 min read

If you're thinking of resizing a plated piece — stop. Resizing involves heat, and heat strips plating in seconds.

What to do instead:

Bracelets / chains

Most have an extender at the clasp. Move it up two links.

Rings

For plated rings, do not resize. Order the next size up. We exchange for free if the original is unworn.

Solid gold rings

Resizing is fine. Take it to a jeweler who works in solid gold (not a chain mall jeweler). The cost is usually $30-60.
